Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. – a chain of American restaurants, entirely dedicated to the famous Robert Zemeckis movie “Forrest Gump”. Everyone who has seen this movie will remember the character named Bubba – the friend of the main character, irrevocably obsessed with shrimp. All his screen life, Bubba dreamed of opening a shrimp restaurant called the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. His dream was realized – though by other people.
The interiors of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant are filled with many items associated with both the movie itself and ’70s and ’90s America. There’s a TV hanging from the ceiling with snippets of “Forrest Gump” constantly playing. The menu includes a huge variety of shrimp dishes, many local dishes, and a variety of cocktails. The menu at Bubba Gump restaurant embodies the full range of dishes that Bubba talked about. Shrimp in all kinds and forms: creole-style, breaded, popcorn, with lemon, kebabs, fried with vegetables, with rice, with pasta, and even in a sandwich. Other seafood, pastas, burgers, salads, steaks, soups and desserts are also available. You can easily find dishes for your kids, and there are only a couple of items prepared for vegetarians. While the kids are waiting for their order, they can color in colorful crayons for fun shrimp.
Unusual design and its own chips
Interior design reflects the atmosphere of the 70’s American countryside, on the TV there are fragments of the film, on the walls there are photos of the main characters. There are shiny aluminum buckets with paper towels on the tables, snacks are traditionally served on a napkin, at the same time you can read the latest news. The drink menu is shaped like a tennis racket, remember Forrest’s hobbies?
But the most interesting thing is the flip charts on the tables. Any visitor to the Bubba Gump restaurant is in for a treat. The blue “Run Forrest run” sign means you don’t need anything yet. But as soon as you flip the sign over to the red “Stop Forrest stop” sign, passing waiters will immediately turn to your table. That’s the fun way to call a waiter.
Bubba Gump restaurant is popular with local foreigners and tourists for birthday parties. As many times as I have been to the restaurant, so many times I have seen cheerful birthday greetings to the birthday boy from the staff and all the visitors.
Near the entrance to the restaurant there is a small shop with souvenirs, a great addition to the atmosphere of the movie “Forrest Gump”. What you can not find there! T-shirts with quotes from the movie, caps, socks, license plates, pens, mugs, magnets, shrimp toys, key chains and more. There is a bench outside in front of the entrance with a suitcase, a box of chocolates and Forrest’s favorite sneakers.
