George Colligan is a New York based musician. Given the astounding number of hats Colligan wears, it’s hard to describe him as anything but accomplished. He plays piano, organ, drums, trumpet, and recently took up the Hammond 44 Melodion (melodica). He is an assistant professor at Portland State University, a much-sought after studio accompanist, a bandleader, and an award-winning composer. Friday, May 17th, Colligan is the front-man for the George Colligan Trio at the Bijou Cafe.
Colligan’s jazz chops are as impressive as any of his other many forays. At the piano, he embellishes upon lush, almost-classical soundscapes and groovy funk leaving room for the rhythm section to do its own thing and giving the group’s sound a fun, contemporary kick.
Here is a video of the George Colligan Trio doing a show in Italy. We hope you like it, and that you’ll join us on Friday to hear more from this great musician.
